(NaturalHealth365) Could there be fraud connected to the “effectiveness” of the whooping cough vaccine? And, more importantly, can we really trust the reporting of vaccine results from vaccine manufacturers? Let’s take a closer look at the numbers.
Last June, the state of Washington saw a 1,300 percent increase in the number of whooping cough (pertussis) cases and the highest number of cases reported in any year since 1942. Investigation of the Washington epidemic demonstrates multiple B. pertussis strains causing infection, primarily in vaccinated persons. The CDC states that “because in most of the cases the patients were vaccinated, the 4.5 percent of Washington school children who were exempted from vaccination during 2011–2012 represented only a small proportion of those at risk for pertussis in the state.”
In San Diego, relatively high numbers of cases were observed in fully vaccinated older children and adolescents, with the peak at age 10 years. KPBS (a San Diego radio show) dedicated coverage to this issue and shared published studies in prominent medical journals that questioned the 85 percent efficacy quoted by vaccine manufacturers. One study, by Kaiser Permanente scientists, found vaccine effectiveness in one California county to be between 24-79 percent for children aged 2-18. The full investigation by KPBS can be found here.
In countries with highly vaccinated populations such as Australia, Canada and the Netherlands, mutation of the whooping cough virus is suspected and has been studied. The researchers state it is conceivable that vaccine-induced immunity has affected the evolution of Bordetella pertussis; causing the re-emergence of pertussis in the Netherlands despite high vaccination coverage.
Even the Journal of Pediatrics looked at the rise in pertussis and states there are 5 possible causes for the increased reporting of pertussis:
1. Genetic changes in Bordetella pertussis make the vaccine less effective.
2. Lessened potency of pertussis vaccines.
3. Waning of vaccine-induced immunity.
4. Greater awareness of pertussis.
5. Better laboratory tests
The opinion of the author stated he contributed the multiple outbreaks of pertussis in pre-adolescent and adolescent school populations to the waning vaccine-induced immunity caused by vaccines that were less efficacious than in the past. Further research by the CDC states the effectiveness of the vaccine may only last 3 years.
Barbara Loe Fisher, co-founder and president of the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) has this to say about “herd immunity”:
“The original concept of herd immunity is that when a population experiences the natural disease… natural immunity would be achieved…the vaccinologists have adopted this idea of vaccine induced herd immunity. The problem with it is that all vaccines only confer temporary protection…Pertussis vaccine is one the best examples…Pertussis vaccines have been used for about 50 to 60 years, and the organism has started to evolve to become vaccine resistant.”
”I think this is not something that’s really understood generally by the public: Vaccines do not confer the same type of immunity that natural exposure to the disease does.”
How do I reduce the risk of pertussis and its symptoms?
Besides vaccines, simple measures such as washing your hands and covering your mouth when you cough and sneeze are helpful.
Dr. Suzanne Humphries recommends taking and giving your children Vitamin C (10 grams). If your child becomes infected with pertussis, she recommends increasing vitamin C as most parents report a significant decrease in cough severity within the first 24 hours of proper dosing.
Dr. Humphries suggests taking cod liver oil along with vitamin C to help protect yourself against pertussis and recommends the sodium ascorbate form – not ester C or calcium ascorbate. The sodium ascorbate can be added to water or even breast milk if giving to an infant or young child.
In my practice, we utilize Sanum Products prophylactically as well as to help with bacterial infections. Homeopathics such as, Drosera and Spongia Tosta can also be helpful for pertussis coughing symptoms.
